How I Traveled

With an emphasis on running, we decided to stay on a trip based on hotels and inns, and not camping. In order to give flexibility to the schedule, we decided on a route and accommodation to go around each place in advance, and then proceeded while booking a destination accommodation on the way, and changed the plan as necessary.

We put up with the historical sights and gourmet as much as possible, giving priority to "running on the road with a superb view". We left as early as possible every morning and always set up a route to enter the inn before sunset. At the inn, I finished making a record of the day and washing clothes, and went to bed at 10 p.m. In order not to accumulate fatigue, we stayed for about one day a week, and made it a rest day ※4 that does not run for a long time.

Other tools include the iPad, iPhone (also handle holder with charging function), SLR digital camera, compact digital camera, tripod, bike navigation, income. All of these worked without trouble.

In particular, by actively using navigation, I try to avoid re-examining the way and getting lost as much as possible. In the first half of the trip (April), Google MAP on the iPhone. In the second half (August), I used a navigation system in the south sea that is resistant to heat. The details of each device are described separately.

I decided to check the route of the next day every night and register it on my smartphone and navigation. In the preparation stage of the trip, I created a list of latitude and longitude at the origin and end of the whole Superb View Roads, which was useful for entering routes every night.

Due to various circumstances, the schedule of this trip was roughly divided into western Japan in the first half and northern Japan in the second half, but before each long trip in the first half and the second half, we put together a process with a lot of time and pre-touring of about three days. This is to check and improve the usage and comfort of new tools, wear, rain gear, etc. This attempt was especially effective because I was able to get used to how to use navigation.

In the commemorative photo of each Superb View Road that I aimed for, I held up a sketchbook with a large route name, number, and date, and took a self-timer.

Note

※4 I was able to finish my trip healthy both physically and mentally by not being greedy and tired.  On the rest days spent without running on the scenic road, I stayed consecutive nights and reduced mileage in Saga, Miyoshi, Ashoro, Obihiro, hirosaki, walked around the area, and met friends. On these rest days, I was able to refresh my mind and body hardened by riding with a few kilometers of walking.
